At first glance this kiln may look nothing more than a steel drum with a lid. But in it you will find a world of creativity. Raku glaze firing is a process where one uses a special raku glaze on bisque items. The glazed items are placed into the raku kiln, fired, and then taken out. The items, while still extremely hot, are then thrown into grass, straw, newspapers, etc. which causes them to burn designs onto the glaze. The items are then dowsed in cold water. This produces a beautiful unique finish.
This kiln runs on natural gas or propane. It must be placed
outside of buildings. Other equipment needed includes raku
glaze, raku tongs and fireproof gloves. Your purchase includes
the drum along with the torch, tongs and gloves.
Since this kiln does not use electricity, it is made much differently from electric kilns. Thus, the standard features of the electric kilns does not apply to this kiln except that the kiln is warranted for two years.
